Behind the Stained Glass

We talk a lot about the New Testament church. However, there is a big gap between 1st century believers and today. Over the last 2,000 years the church has spread across the globe. The story behind the stained glass is filled with incredible people who’s faith changed the world. The story is also filled with some awful things that the church did in the name of religion.
In this series we explore the good, the bad and the ugly.

  • The Legends. Early Christians that freely offered their life and death for the sake of the message.
  • The Infected. Leaders who destroyed the message of Christ and corrupted the pure purpose of the church.
  • The Rebels. Key people that weren’t afraid to go against the grain.
  • The Game Changers. As Christianity turned into empty religion it took men of courage to relight the fire of God’s grace.
  • The Messengers. Inspired disciples who left all they had and journeyed to far off lands just to tell people about Jesus Christ.

Key scriptures were  lived out during key moments in history. Other scriptures were completely forgotten, with dire consequences.  What can we learn from the Christians of the past? What did they get right and what did they get wrong?

Grant is our resident farmboy. He grew up in the cornfields of northwest Nebraska. He spent his early days living far from God. As Grant says, "I gave God the middle finger and didn't really care about faith at all." As a young man, he became convinced that God was real. He gave his life to Jesus and experienced God's amazing grace that previously made no sense to him. After experiencing that grace, Grant felt God calling him to teach the message of the gospel. Over the past 20 years, he has been preaching and teaching. Grant, his wife, Bethany, and their four children moved to Michigan in 2011, and he joined the 2|42 team in 2019. Grant is always good for a laugh, but more importantly, he explains biblical concepts in ways anyone can understand.
