John’s story

John was raised in a Christian family from a young age. But he drifted away from God as he grew up. He joined the military after high school, and it was then that he began to struggle with alcohol.  As life spiraled out of control, John found himself in a dark place. Through a series of events, friends Toney and Kathy Nau invited him to 2|42 for the very first time. He’s been attending ever since.

Today, John celebrates over a year of sobriety and is a testimony of God’s goodness. John took his next step of baptism at the Taylor campus and found community in a small group, which provides the support he needs to continue taking next steps with God every day.

People in Groups

Being part of a small group has had such a positive impact on our lives. It’s given us a place to truly connect with others, share honestly about our faith journeys, and be encouraged in both the highs and lows of life. We’ve grown closer to God and to one another through meaningful conversations, prayer, and simply doing life together. We love sharing meals, laughing around the table, and even going camping as a group—it’s through those moments that real friendships have formed. Our small group has become more than just a weekly gathering; it’s a community that challenges us, supports us, and reminds us that we’re not meant to follow Jesus alone.  -Eric

Callista’s Story

Callista grew up attending a Catholic church but never felt like she had a relationship with God. The church felt strict, uncomfortable, and even scary at times. By seventh grade, she had walked away from God. Callista started to make choices that led her down a dark path. Her parents didn’t know what to do, so they prayed over Callista every night.

In the middle of eighth grade, Callista was diagnosed with a panic disorder. She cried out to God, asking why He would allow this to happen when she already felt so broken. In the heartbreak, she began to realize that God was still working in her pain to bring healing.

During this time, she was invited by her friend Anabel to 2|42. For the first time in her life, Callista felt God’s arms wrapped around her. And that’s when everything else changed. Callista found her people. 2|42 didn’t just welcome her; they loved her.

Callista had a life-changing experience at CIY where she remembered that she belonged to God. Not long after, Callista made the decision to be baptized! Gillian Schultz, one of the student leaders, sat with Callista and helped her walk through what it meant to live for Jesus. Callista shared that she was baptized “not because I was perfect, but because I was rescued.” Callista’s story is proof that God can take your lowest moments and turn them into a story of healing.

Cameron’s story

Cameron packed his bags with reluctance, convinced CIY MOVE—a summer camp for high school students—would be a wasted week. His faith felt hollow, performing more for his girlfriend than from a genuine interest in God. As a logical person, he struggled with doubt about God’s existence. The first days of camp seemed to confirm his assumption: this church stuff wasn’t for him.

But everything changed on Day Three. Surrounded by other students with similar struggles, Cameron realized he wasn’t alone. He watched peers share with raw vulnerability. When a leader noticed his struggle, he offered Cameron encouragement: “Lean into it and go all in.”

They openly cried and sang worship with abandon. Small group became a safe space for late-night discussions and deep questions. The change continued once Cameron returned home. After talking with his family, he chose baptism as his next step!

GENEROSITY

Carma’s story

I have always known the tithing principle and wanted to every week. In 2008, my husband and I were in massive debt. There was more debt than income. I attending a financial workshop at our church and decided after the weekend to trust God with our finances and begin tithing, even though it was mathmatically impossible. God blessed us in ways I never would have expected, by 2012, we had paid off over $100,000 in debt. I was trying to control our finances (it’s also what I do for a living). We have trusted God since and now we love trusting God and being obedient, it is impossible to out give God. Surrendering our finances to him, changed our lives.
