2 Peter 3:10
But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the
elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.
1.) It will be a surprise
“But the day of the Lord will come like a thief”
2.) It will be final
“The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth
and everything done in it will be laid bare”
3.) We need to be ready
2 Peter 3:11-12
Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be?
You ought to live holy and godly lives
Some are so anxious for Jesus’ coming that it prevents others from coming to Jesus.
Living a life truly convinced that Jesus is coming allows others to come to Jesus.
2 Peter 3:12
as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming…’
Here is how you get excited.
- Have a clear conscience
- Compare this world to eternal life
12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to
take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13 Brothers and sisters, I do not
consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: forgetting what is behind and
straining towards what is ahead, 14 I press on towards the goal to win the prize for which God
has called me heavenwards in Christ Jesus.

2 Peter 3:12-13
…That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in
the heat. But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new
earth, where righteousness dwells.
2 Peter 3:14
So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found
spotless, blameless and at peace with him.
And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up
from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.12 The
night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put
on the armor of light. 13 Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and
drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy.14
Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the
desires of the flesh.
