“It is good to be children sometimes, and never better than at Christmas, when its mighty Founder was a child himself.” – Charles Dickens
The smell of cookies baking in an oven, for me, signals the start of the holiday season. Baking was one of the many ways that Grandma showed her
love to her family. It was never “…visions of sugarplums dancing in our heads…”, it was Grandma’s Sugar Cookies. Early Christmas morning, upon arriving at
Grandpa and Grandma’s house, my sisters and I would race straight to the kitchen Christmas platter. The platter was loaded with traditional yummies, but it
was that particular sugary delight we sought. We devoured these cookies as we would head to the Christmas tree, and find our place under the holiday lights to spend the day all together. Grandma is gone now, but her cookies live on with each batch made in the kitchens of the next generations.
