Guardrails – "I'm Forever Yours" – 4/22/18

Speaker: Trevor Heyd

• Guardrails: A system designed to keep vehicles from straying into dangerous or
off-limit areas
• Guardrails: Direct and Protect
They’re not placed in the danger zones. They’re placed inside the safety zones.
• Guardrails: designed to minimize damage
• Guardrails: a standard of behavior that becomes a matter of conscience
• The point of a guardrail is to light up our consciences BEFORE we hurt others
and/or ourselves.
• Culture doesn’t encourage guardrails. Culture is content with painted lines.
Fidelity
loyal, faithful
1 Corinthians 6:18–20
18 Flee from sexual immorality!
– flirt with instead of
flee from.
18 All other sins a person commits …
18 are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.
19 Do you not know …
19 that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from
God?
19 You are not your own;
20 you were bought at a price.
20 Therefore…
20 honor God with your bodies.
Talk about it.
Avoid travelling or eating alone with members of the opposite sex.
Tell ’em about it.
Tell somebody.
Dangerous environments call for extreme measures.
Flee or Flirt?
“I’m forever yours …
… faithfully.”

Grant is our resident farmboy. He grew up in the cornfields of northwest Nebraska. He spent his early days living far from God. As Grant says, "I gave God the middle finger and didn't really care about faith at all." As a young man, he became convinced that God was real. He gave his life to Jesus and experienced God's amazing grace that previously made no sense to him. After experiencing that grace, Grant felt God calling him to teach the message of the gospel. Over the past 20 years, he has been preaching and teaching. Grant, his wife, Bethany, and their four children moved to Michigan in 2011, and he joined the 2|42 team in 2019. Grant is always good for a laugh, but more importantly, he explains biblical concepts in ways anyone can understand.
