It is a sobering day when we realize that we have spent years “shoulding” on God. This is not a spiritual statement, this is something that all humans do. We make quiet contracts and bargains with God and then when God doesn’t live up to His end of the deal ... we “should” on Him. And this leads us down one of two different paths: either we choose to continue to trust God, even though he frankly seems untrustworthy, or we choose to blame Him, betray Him, leave Him or belittle Him because He is not acting like He “should!”
