Plan B – God’s plan to fix a broken world
What’s really broken?
Sin
Any action taken by humanity apart from God’s goodness is destructive
God’s 5 Steps to fix what is broken
Step #3 | God becomes a man
Jesus came to be one of us in order to redeem us. JESUS CHANGES EVERYTHING!
1. Jesus revealed the source of humanity’s problem
During his most well-known public teaching (The Sermon on the Mount), Jesus reframed people’s definitions of whether they were “good.”
Matthew 5:21-22
You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘You shall not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.’ But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment.
Matthew 5:27-28
You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
Matthew 5:43-46
You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that?
2. Jesus provided protection from God’s wrath
The book of Romans gives us a clear picture of our need of protection from what we deserve because of sin, and what Jesus has done for us.
Romans 5:6-11
You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him! For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! 11 Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.
3. Jesus made sincerity the only requirement
Once again, Romans makes it plain. This time, about the singular and simple thing that is required of us because of what Jesus did.
Romans 1:17
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last.
