The Bible tells not to be afraid. I don’t believe that God would call us to something that is impossible. Do you? But often the things God calls us to do are waaay outside of our comfort zones. What’s the connection between courage and faith?
2 | How Can We Be Truly Strong and Courageous? | Timothy Wan | CRU | Article
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged,” is probably one of the most often quoted phrases whenever we feel anxious or overwhelmed as Christians.
As a student, I remember praying it silently in the exam hall; as an army boy, just before we embarked on an outfield exercise; as an anxious person, often before entering into a social situation.
Over the years, I’d simply been contented to glance at this evergreen refrain whenever I felt anxious or dismayed, without exploring its deeper context and uses.
Recently, through reading the other Old Testament (OT) passages that contain the exact same phrase, I grew a deeper appreciation for and understanding of this phrase “be strong and courageous.”
3 | Joshua Pursuing the Promises of God | Christi Davis | Summer Lacy | Book
As the book of Joshua opens, the Israelites emerge from their years of wilderness wanderings on the outskirts of Canaan, with the entirety of God’s promise before them. The land was theirs, an abundant inheritance from the Lord, but in order for the Israelites to obtain the land, they would have to go in and take it. The people could not receive the promise if they did not have the heart to pursue it.
The journey of the Israelites as they fought for the land of Canaan provides tremendous insight into the journey we take as believers today. Just as the Israelites had to learn through battle to follow, trust, and obey God in pursuit of His good promises, we who follow Christ must do the same.

After God led Joshua and His people across the Jordan, God had the people set up twelve memorial stones. These stones were meant to serve as a reminder of God’s mighty works. The Lord ensured that Israel would pass down this testimony to the coming generations.
Joshua said to the people, “When your children ask in time to come, ‘What do those stones mean to you?’ then you shall tell them that the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord…so these stones shall be to the people of Israel a memorial forever” (Joshua 4:6-7).

Something remarkable happened to a man named Joshua outside a city called Jericho. What happened to him needs to happen to us.
He became the leader of the Israelites after Moses died. In Joshua 1:3, God promised Joshua that when he led the people across the Jordan River that He would give him every place he set his foot. Three days later God dried up the Jordan for his people to cross over. All of the Amorite Kings and Canaanite Kings heard how God was leading His people and they just folded. They didn’t have the courage to face them. Everything was going great until they came to Jericho and literally hit a wall.
6 | Obedience to Christ | A.W. Tozer | Book
Obedience—it’s a word many would rather ignore. In an age that prizes self-will and independence, obedience sounds outdated, even offensive. Yet, Tozer insists, it is the very essence of the Christian life.
Salvation and obedience. Saviour and Lord.
They are not separate truths but one inseparable reality. To truly receive Christ as Saviour is to submit to Him as Lord—regardless of the consequences.
The world may mock this surrender as foolishness. But Tozer calls it the highest wisdom.
If eternity lies ahead, and our brief earthly life shapes our forever, what greater danger could there be than striving for rewards that will burn away when Christ returns?
In Obedience to Christ, Tozer offers more than a warning—he offers a way back. A way to live with clarity, urgency, and eternal purpose.
With piercing insight and pastoral love, he reminds us that obedience is not legalism—it is love in action.
This is a call to breathe heaven’s air, to walk in step with the Spirit, and to rediscover the joy of living fully and faithfully for Jesus.
