The Bible Project: Why is the Lord’s Supper Significant in the Bible?
For centuries, followers of Jesus have met together to partake in a meal commonly referred to as the Lord’s Supper. Some also refer to this meal as Communion or the Eucharist, which comes from the Greek eucharisteo, meaning “to give thanks.” But why a meal? And why this meal? What is the point?

Got Questions: What did Jesus Mean When He Said We Must Eat His Flesh and Drink His Blood?
In John 6:53–57, Jesus says, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink.”

Desiring God: What Jesus Meant When He Said, “You Must Eat My Flesh”
The day before, Jesus had fed 5,000 people with a few loaves and fish. Then that night he walked miles across the Sea of Galilee before catching up with his disciples in their boat. The crowd had seen him send his disciples away in the only boat available. So the next day, when they found him in Capernaum, they knew he could have only gotten there miraculously. They wanted him to be their king. Then he went and “ruined” everything.

Got Questions: Who was Esau in the Bible?
Esau was Abraham’s grandson, the older twin born to Isaac and Rebekah (the younger was Jacob). Rebekah had a difficult pregnancy, and God told her it was because “two nations are in your womb; … one people will be stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger.”
