Top 10 Christmas Festivities Around Monroe 


There are several Christmas hometown activities around the Monroe area that many people enjoy  year to year that make their Christmas season to-do list. Whether you enjoy the cold outdoors this time of the year, staying indoors with a cup of hot cocoa, or enjoy the arts, this list of Christmas fun should have something for everyone to make their Christmas merry and bright. 

November 17th

City of Monroe’s Hometown Tree Lighting – 5:30PM – 8:30PM at Langer Square in Downtown Monroe. The Tree Lighting is at 7:00PM. This event is considered a local favorite! The night includes food trucks, photos with Santa Claus, horse and wagon rides, a barnyard petting farm, a live nativity, and so much more

November 17th – December 31st

The Lights before Christmas at the Toledo Zoo and Aquarium are just a short drive south, but well worth the trip. Many families have made this a Christmas tradition over the years. The whole zoo and aquarium are open as you enjoy the beautiful light shows, decorated walkways, food and other special activities. Plan your trip and purchase your tickets ahead of time to avoid the lines. 

November 24-26th

3 Day Craft Weekend at Matthes Tree Farm- This family owned Christmas Tree farm offers a cut your own, pre-cut, and live balled trees. During this particular weekend in November, you can enjoy a day of crafters & vendors, doughnuts, live entertainment, photos with Santa, a petting ‘zoo’, pony rides (weather permitting), and lots of TREES, wreaths and more. 

December 1st and 2nd

Christmas in Ida Festival and Parade of Lights – This is Ida and the surrounding area’s biggest highlight of the season and was voted by Monroe County residents as their Favorite Monroe County Event in 2021. You Can enjoy local art and crafts, food, Santa, musical concerts and lots more.

December 1st – 3rd

The Nutcracker – The River Raisin Center for the Arts will showcase The River Raisin Ballet Company in their production of The Nutcracker. They also offer an hour-long abridged version of The Nutcracker for kids and other concerts through December that any Christmas music enthusiast will enjoy. December 2nd 

French Noel at the River Raisin National Battlefield Park Visitor Center at 11:00am – 4:00pm. This is a free event for the public to see local traditions and culture of the French living in Frenchtown in the early 1800’s. These reenactments never disappoint and are fun for all ages.

December 10th

The Vintage Market is headed to the Monroe County Fairgrounds on December 10th from 10:00am – 4:00pm for a fun holiday Market: Groovy & Bright! 

December 13th
Sidewalk Prophets – Monroe Missionary Baptist Church is excited to welcome Sidewalk Prophets for their 2023 “Great Big Family Christmas” concert! Guaranteed to be a joy filled & memory making Christmas experience!! Tickets and information can be found here

December 16th and 17th

The Christmas Market is returning to The Mall of Monroe. You can find unique items for anyone on your Christmas list  or have fun shopping with a friend. For more information and hours please visit the link.

December 24th

Finally, celebrate the reason for the season at Monroe 2|42 Christmas Eve Sunday for a  Candlelight service at either 9:30 am + 11 am + 7 pm.
